Basically, each level would have their own sets of proficiency and practices that directly relate to the effectiveness or efficiency of a company to their business or their organization – in the context of cybersecurity.

For instance, there are controls and practices in Basic Cyber Hygiene that might not be in Intermediate Cyber Hygiene. Moreover, there might also be some instances where the practices in the 1^st level are on the 3^rd level – just more advanced.

If you are looking to work and to be a contractor of the DoD, you would eventually be asked and required to be certified to the CMMC. Now, though, it’s not yet finalized – but it’s better to prepare and to be ready.
